Late night cravings - we all have them!

And as the nights get colder and we feel like staying in and being cozy, the late night snacking becomes a thing…….

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a snack after a long day in front of the television, treat yo self.

I always preach honouring your cravings, but doing it in a balanced way. However, if you recognize that the late night snacking is standing in your way from achieving your health and wellness goals, it’s important to tackle them!

So instead of stopping them all together, instead, It’s important to manage them!

Below I’ve listed 6 ways to navigate your night-time cravings:

1.Don't skip meals

Try eating 3 full meals and 2 snacks throughout the day. Not eating enough during the day could be the reason you’re getting super hungry at night!

2. Drink more water

A lot of the time you’ll confuse thirst for hunger. That’s why it’s so important to stay hydrated throughout the day! Try drinking 2 tall glasses of water an hour after dinner. It will help curb your cravings.

3. Plan ahead

Have some healthy late-night snacks ready if you’re worried you’ll still be hungry. I don’t know how many times i’ve said this, but when you fail to plan you plan to fail. If you plan out your healthy evening snacks in advanced, you won’t have to worry about losing progress. I’ve listed some healthy snack ideas at the end of this blog post!

4.Out of sight, out of mind

Keep the junk out of your house! If you don’t see it, or can’t reach for it, you won’t be tempted by it.

5. Opt-in for a herbal tea

Like I mentioned before, your night time cravings may be caused from dehydration! Buy a tea that you like (can be fruity, chocaltaly) and slowly sip at night! Not only does it satisfy your thirst, but it’ll satisfy that sweet tooth as well. Oh, and you’ll sleep like a baby!

6.Be mindful

Most of the time people eat out of habit, boredom, or an oral fixation. Before you reach for the pantry, ask yourself if it's hunger that you’re trying to satisfy. If you’re snacking out of boredom, sadness, or stress, the late night snack may turn into a binge.
