My Post-Workout Routine and Fitness Tips with Downy Unstopables

One of the main things that has kept me sane during the pandemic is having a routine. I thrive on rituals and organization, so whenever I feel unfocused I take solace in structure. Over many years of structure I’ve found that expanding my routines beyond the basics saves me time and keeps me grounded. 


That’s why I’m so excited to be partnering with Downy Unstopables to share my tips for keeping fitness top of mind as well as my post-workout routine.


First, here are my three favourite tips for keeping fitness and wellness top of mind, especially right now:



  • TIP ONE: Meal Prep! At the beginning of the week I  make a schedule of the meals I’d like to week and prep as much food as I can.

  • TIP TWO: Recovery Post-Workout! When I’m setting the schedule for my workouts I always make sure I drink water and fuel my body with the nutrients my muscles need to recover after an intense class.

  • TIP THREE: Keep Workout Gear Fresh with  Downy Unstopables! As soon as I’m done my workout I do a load of laundry, adding Downy Unstopables to along with my detergent to ensure I am always ready with amazing-smelling gear. 




So with that in mind here is my comprehensive post workout routine:




STRETCH AND RELAX 

I keep my foam roller on stand by and do a 3 min full body stretch and then about 2-3 minutes of foam rolling in the areas that I worked out the most. Recovery is so important if you want to prevent injuries. Especially nowadays when you’re sitting at your office or on your couch and your muscles and fascia need that release, blood flow and movement.

RECOVER AND REFUEL

After an intense workout like HIIT, it’s important to get the recovery your muscles, joints need so I like to take a scoop of BCAA’s that contain electrolytes for hydration. What are BCAA’s you ask? Branched chain amino acids (BCAA) are the building blocks of protein and can help you burn fat, build muscle and limit fatigue.





INVIGORATE AND REFRESH  

Between home and teaching classes at Barry’s, I live in leggings, sweatsuits and sports bras!  The laundry piles up fast.   I do a load of laundry immediately after my at-home work outs.  This ensures my space doesn’t start smelling like dirty/sweaty laundry.  I always add Downy Unstopables to my loads because it helps keep my clothes fresh from wash to wear even if they are in my closet, locker or gym bag for weeks. 




My Laundry Load Ritual!


  • Add Downy Unstopables to the washing machine along with my detergent

  • Gather gym bag, laundry basket and bathroom towels

  • Empty laundry basket into washer (Must ensure Chloe isn’t inside!) 

  • Press start and get ready to unload the freshest workout gear you’ve ever smelled!
